How to be a more informed, efficient, and productive eClinicalWorks User

A more informed eClinicalWorks user is a more productive and efficient eClinicalWorks user. This is something I have seen proven over and over during my many years assisting practice administrators, clinicians, and staff in developing and optimizing workflow in eClinicalWorks. Getting the most out of eClinicalWorks requires staying up to date on new eClinicalWorks functions and capabilities, training materials, and industry trends that may affect your workflow.
Considering each eClinicalWorks user’s busy day-to-day schedule, making time for researching and implementing eClinicalWorks additional/follow-up training often falls down the priority list. However, when my clients take the time to consume the many resources available to them, they can update their skills and knowledge as well as learn tips and tricks that help make their day-to-day workload more manageable.
Below are my most-recommended resources for practice administrators who want to ensure they are always in-the-know on the latest eClinicalWorks tools, updates, and other important resources:

eClinicalWorks Newsletter: eClinicalWorks has a full suite of regular email newsletters that you can customize to your interests. This includes updates from their blog, product updates, eClinicalWorks events, industry news on topics like patient engagement and population health, and more. You can select your preferences when you sign up to receive the newsletter. Subscribe so that you never miss a new eClinicalWorks update or training resource.

eClinicalWorks® and healow® Annual National Conference: Each year, eClinicalWorks holds an in-person or most recently, a virtual educational conference that is loaded with innovative new features and ways to maximize the value of your eClinicalWorks EMR. During the conference, thousands of eClinicalWorks users from a wide variety of practice sizes, specialties, and facility types gather to network, discuss best practices with peers, attend educational sessions that can earn Continuing Medical Education (CME/CE) credits, and complete other hands-on product training. The aim of the conference is to give users an exclusive look at how to optimize eClinicalWorks solutions and increase practice efficiency and improve patient satisfaction. The 2022 eClinicalWorks® and healow® National Conference will be held in Orlando on October 7-9. eClinicalWorks Customer Portal: Since eClinicalWorks is the largest cloud-based EHR, naturally it has one of the most robust EHR customer portals available. With an account, the portal is easily accessible and available 24/7 and contains answers to nearly every question you could imagine related to eClinicalWorks. Access the portal here any time to open a large library of eClinicalWorks documents and videos in eCW University and product information you can leverage to make the most of the platform.

eClinicalWorks Blog: eClinicalWorks regularly updates its blog with updates on healthcare trends, technological advances, and more. I recommend regularly reading the blog. The topics are a window into what is important to your practice or group and what to prioritize in terms of EHR workflow optimization.

CMS MLN Connects Newsletter: This Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) send a weekly roundup email that highlights program and policy details, press releases, and educational sessions. It also shares claim, price, and code information. You can view a history of past updates and subscribe for future updates here. These updates not only help you optimize your workflow, they help you better serve your patients.
I have found that these five resources are immensely valuable to anyone who uses eClinicalWorks. If you are not already leveraging these, I highly recommend making them a part of your work and referencing them as you carry on in your EHR optimization journey.
